Why Alaska?

This was a question I heard a lot when planning my first trip to this beautiful state. I love to travel and my list of places to visit is long. I always thought Alaska would be a cool place to visit, but to be honest, it wasn’t very high on my list. But then fate moved in ;)

My husband was invited along on an Alaskan fishing trip. The timing, and some other factors made it so that he wasn’t able to go. When I realized how bummed he was about missing out, and with Christmas right around the corner, I knew I had the perfect gift! I surprised him with a boys trip to Alaska with his dad and brothers. Over the next couple months I became the travel agent on this once in a lifetime trip. Being one that doesn’t like to miss out, planning this trip definitely peaked my interest, and Alaska began moving up my travel destination list. The clincher came once my husband was in Alaska and began sending home these incredible photos. So naturally, I began trying to figure out a way that I could get there quickly!

The following summer I came across a great deal on a cruise. We had been looking for a couples trip, and this seemed to check all of the boxes. So we booked, but little did I know, this trip would change our lives. Once there, I quickly fell in love. The scenery was incredible: majestic, breathtaking, inspiring and untouched. Every local we talked to loved living there. On our way from Anchorage to Seward, to catch our ship, we had a few casual conversations with our bus driver. Those conversations sparked an idea, that at the time, I honestly thought was just that. We enjoyed the next 9 days in Alaska, soaking in the scenery and as many experiences as we could, and then we headed home. But once we got home the idea began to grow, and a few short months later Beck’s Travel and Transport was born, with Alaska Lift being our first venture.

I’m smart enough to realize that not everyone will have a life changing experience in Alaska. But I do believe that there is something inspiring about this great state that all visitors will feel. I have yet to meet a person that has taken an Alaskan cruise and didn’t fall in love with the surroundings. You can look at pictures and talk to those that have traveled, but you’ll never understand the grandeur of this amazing place until you set foot here. I hope you choose to visit, and I hope we get to be part of your adventure.
