I didn’t know much about glaciers before heading to Alaska. To be honest, there is still quite a bit I could learn about these amazing rivers of ice. Most of the glaciers found in the United States are found in Alaska. You can find over 100,000 of them here, with 616 of them being officially named.

Cruising Alaska gives you the opportunity to see many of these amazing formations. One of my favorite excursions was a helicopter ride,, in Juneau. We flew over Mendenhall Glacier and landed on Herbert Glacier. We had the chance to explore the glacier and we even drank glacier water. Hands down, some of the best water I’ve ever tasted.

Make sure to take advantage of seeing these while visiting Alaska. And on those days that your cruise ship is visiting one, make sure to get a good seat. It’s worth the time and energy to do so!
